Date:  25th & 26th September 2010
Venue:  Bendigo Clay Target Club, Vic.

Weather:  Perfect
After a long 9hour trip down from Sydney with the ZZ trailer in tow, Neale Guy, Horst (George Crazy Horse) & Vince took the automatic ZZ traps to Bendigo CTC for the National ZZ titles.
Saturday 25th started off quietly due to the AFL Grand Final being held on the same day it was still good as we took most of the morning to set up, thank you to the 9 shooters that came along to have a small comp & shoot some practice. I’d like to thank Lee Fitzgerald, John Tannous, Mick Tannous & Peter Determinis for helping with the clean up of the targets to be ready for Sunday morning, thanks guys.
Sunday 26th after practice we had 33 shooters on the board, 31 going into the Calcutta, 26 taking up the Super Sweeps. Our auctioneer for the Calcutta was Norm Basile who did a great job making the Calcutta exciting and raising over $2600 on the shooters.  It was a beautiful day, everybody who attended had a good time, with the targets being shot from 27m for the National Title and the fence being set at 21m.
Due to a slight breeze the targets weren’t fast but tricky.

O/A 2nd place – Anthony Pannetta* & Brenton Irons*  24/25
Thank you to Neale Guy’s parents for putting us up & being only 5mins from the club – it was great, thank you. ZZ Sydney Australia Competition
Griffith Gun Club Casella Wines annual 2 day DTL shoot.
Date:  Friday 3rd September 2010
Venue:  Griffith Gun Club, NSW.

Attendance:  37 shooters
Weather:  Slight wind & cloudy
The ZZ Competition was held Friday before the Griffith Gun Club Casella Wines annual 2day DTL shoot.
Friday morning saw a beautiful clear day after a quick downpour the night before (luckily just after we had set everything up). Practice got underway around 9.30am and by 12noon there were 37 names on the scoreboard.  Most shooters coming just to shoot  ZZ, then staying on for an interesting weekend of DTL. We had shooters come from as far afield as Tasmania, QLD, SA, but with most from Vic and NSW.
The fence was setup at 21m with the shooters mat set on 25m and the traps set to the weather conditions.
This is the first time we have had so many competitors shoot a possible 25/25 birds – Lee Fitzgerald, Rex Piastri, David Neilsen & Mick Tannous, with 5 shooters finishing on a 24/25.
1st Sweeps: (10/10)       *Competitors were in the Super Sweeps as well.
Glenn Barton, Lee Fitzgerald*, Luke Kirkby, Rex Piastri, Marc Crimmins*, Dave Neilsen*, Mick Tannous*, Nidal Asmar*(ISSF king pin), John Tannous*, Alf Gugliamo (Mr Invisible), Anna Shedrina.
2nd Sweeps: (10/10)
Glenn Barton, Ben Vogelzang, Lee Fitzgerald*, Rex Piastri, Marc Crimmins*, Dave Neilsen*, Mick Tannous*, John Tannous*, Alf Gugliamo (Mr Invisible), Anna Shedrina.
3rd Sweeps: (10/10)
John Maxwell, Glenn Barton, Lee Fitzgerald*, Colin Saxton, Lou Rech, Rex Piastri, Jimmy Ellis, Dave Neilsen*, Neil Cooke, Mick Tannous*, John Tannous*.
4th Sweeps: (10/10)
Lee Fitzgerald*, Rex Piastri, Dave Neilsen*, Randall Vitkus, Mick Tannous*, Nidal Asmar*, Marcello Casella.
O/A winners Lee Fitzgerald & Rex Piastri, after 12 ZZ birds in the shoot off, due to light fading they decided to split.
3rd  went to David Neilsen (25+10/11)
4th went to Mick Tannous (25+3/4)

One of the best shots of the day would have to go to Rex Piastri after all his problems with his eyes to still come out & shoot a terrific score and be a winner, WELL DONE Rex!
Thank you to Marcello Casella, Alf Gugliamo (president GGC) and the board of directors, Steve & his wife & Yenda Primary School for help with the canteen.
We would also like to thank Neale Guy & of course Shelly, Chris & Sammy, Colin Saxton, Lee Fitzgerald, Sheree & kids, Elton & Kathy Chetcuti, Darcy, Holly & Finn for all their help in packing up.
We were very happy with the number of shooters that turned up to support & enjoy shooting ZZ even though quite a few stayed away due to bad weather being predicted over the weekend.
Till next time,
Shelly & Vinc

ZZ Sydney Australia's
1st Competition held at
Cecil Park Clay Target Club on 24th May 2009.

Saturday the 23rd May was a cold wet miserable way to start the practice day off for the first ZZ competition to be held on CPCTC grounds on Sunday, but thank the heavens the clouds parted Sunday morning for an interesting and fun day ahead.

With approximately 150 ZZ targets thrown for practice on Saturday it was a very hard day to shoot as ZZ helice targets are tricky at the best of times, but with the wind and rain you've got to be good or have 'Lady luck' on your side. It just adds to the fun!!!

Sunday got underway with shooters wanting to shoot practice up until 1pm. Competition started at 1.30pm with 18 shooters putting their names on the board with $710 up for grabs in the sweepstakes and $180 for overall.

The 1st competition at CPCTC started with a 25 ZZ helice target championship with a SASH and CASH for Overall including four overlapping cash sweepstakes.

No one shot the first ten targets straight so the 1st lot of sweeps of $170 was divided between Frank Minici, Luke Cassar, Henry Yin, Vince Gatt and Dave Perri who all shot 9/10 .

Second sweeps of $180 was taken out solely by Dave Perri shooting 10/10.

Third sweeps of $180 was divided by Eugene Kavanagh and Dave Perri both shooting 10/10.

Fourth and final sweeps of $180 was taken out solely by Paul Farrugia with 10/10.

Overall of $180 for the day went to Dave Perri shooting 22/25 who took home the first ZZ Sydney Australia black tartan sash, congratulations Dave.

The Jackpot of $90 carries over to the next competition to the lucky shooter or shooters to shoot the possible.

It was great to see new shooters come and have a go at this relatively new discipline to NSW, most of whom surprised themselves on how well they shot! I have heard the girls are just as good at ZZ shooting as the guys, so lookout boys! A lot of good ZZ shooters have stemmed from Victoria which has been the home of ZZ for the last 30 years, but now the excitement of shooting the ZZ discipline is spreading!

Thank you to all the shooters that participated on the day we hope to see again on 27th June for the next competition. We'd also like to say a special thank you to Neale Guy and Rami Teffaha for refereeing, Louis Galea for running the program and his all round support

Shoot Report

ZZ 's 1st OPEN PRACTICE DAY/NIGHT

held at Cecil Park Clay Target Club on 29.04.09

WEATHER: Overcast + cool, slight wind, 20deg C
The 1st ZZ practice day was set up overlooking the ISSF trap layout. Traps where setup on frames to raise them to ground level, according to the rules, setup has a green shaded cover (shade cloth) representing the ground level behind the traps to aide the vision of the shooter towards the target.
A 100m fence was erected in an ark made up of 600mm High netting with a 3 inch vinyl band across the top and bottom, as you can see by the photograph the bottom vinyl band on the fence is set at the same ground level as where the shooter stands (in future there will be a black netting from the bottom of the fence to the ground) .

All the fully automatic ZZ machines (holding approximately 300 zz helice targets) being controlled by a computer box sequencer that allows the traps to randomly release a single target at a time, also allowing doubles and triples to be thrown. Shooting commenced at 11am with our very 1st shooter being a longtime member and local Wednesday shooter of CPCTC, Jake Zadrovec, hitting his first 3 targets scoring 3 out of 3 and quoted by saying "I'll quit while I'm ahead".

To my surprise, not expecting the turnout, shooters were slow to start but promptly started to roll in after 1pm and there was a steady flow from then on. On dark we turned on the lights and shot right through until we ran out of targets at around 8pm, an hour earlier than planned, after shooting between 550-600 zz helice targets! Between 30 - 40 shooters turned up on the spur of the moment to help get ZZ started for the 1st time at CPCTC, and hopefully we'll all be ready for the next one! What an exciting sport! All in all, it is a great start to the first official ZZ continuing in NSW. There are a lot of shooters that have never seen this type of shooting before and it is entirely different to clay target shooting as you have a red wing with a white 'witness' insert made from plastic and clipped together to make the flying bird or as called ZZ helice.

As per the rules you have 5 traps and 1 shooting station 25m - 30m away from the traps, with a surrounding fence from 19m up to 21m in an ark from the traps. The targets are revving at between 4000 - 9000 rpm and on you call a zz helice bird will be release and you must detach the white witness from the red wing with the witness landing inside the fence for it to be classified as a good bird or 'kill'. These rules are a continuation from the original box birds rules back in the 1960's, which is currently a very large sport in Europe and America.
